Subject: repair on mahogany superstructure
Date: Mon, 06 Jan 2003

I have a 32' yellow cedar on oak,ply deck with mahogany super structure. We have just bought the boat and want to use it not rebuild it ! The cabin has some rotten wood in window corners, will your products take stain to match the existing mahogany. I live in Van BC , what's the easiest way for me to purchase your product.

Thanks Jeff W

The short answer is no, not really. Cosmetics are the trickiest part. Its a lot of work, but cosmetically the best results are obtained from using the technique of fine furniture repairers. To do this you would make any repairs to the underlying wood, then glue in a plug, cutting deep, matching sawteeth wherever end grain meets end grain. Done properly, this is an almost invisible repair, and gives you wood that will accept stain. If you are going to varnish the wood, this is really the only method that gives satisfactory results, in my opinion.

The easiest way to get our products is to have us ship them UPS ground. The costs would be the regular UPS ground rates, plus $15-20 brokerage fee, plus 2-3% import tariff. (see our Canadian shipping information page for more information)

Let me know if you need further help with this project.
