Subject: quick question (thru hull passages for motor mounts)
Date: Mon, 14 April 2014

With a rotten transom , if replacement wood cannot be reintroduced, how big a cavity can the L&L fill safely and how strong will it be

Jeff

The L&L Resin, with or without a wood flour thickener, can fill as large a cavity as you wish. It needs to be added two quarts at a time, every 24 hours (or longer) to fill a large cavity. The cured L&L Resin is a non-shattering resin derived from wood, and it is stronger by far than the wood it replaces.

Could you suggest a method of maintaining the thru hull passages for the motor mounting bolts when filling with L&L. Second, what is the best ratio of wood dust/chips to mix with the L&L. Thank you for your time

Jeff

Through-hull passages for the motor mounting bolts can be maintained by inserting a wooden or metal dowel wrapped in wax paper or kitchen cling wrap. The epoxy will not bond with either of these substances.

There is no ratio for the sawdust-to-L&L Resin because it 1) depends on how thick you want it to be, and 2) on the size of the sawdust or wood chips.
