Subject: Deck Paint
Date: Tue, Jul 17, 2018
I have a Haida 26 that had the deck finished with Uniflex 255 Aliphatic that the then owner, Jarred, bought from you - I would guess around 2006. It is starting to show some cracks and I'm wondering what you would recommend to repaint it.
In looking at your site I'm wondering if Rhino Top could just go over the top or if Elasta-tuff 6000-AL-HS would be a better choice. I'm hoping I don't have to take off the old layers, but If that's the way to go then I'll do it.
Thank you.
Eric
The Elastuff 6000 is a direct replacement for the Uniflex 255. The Elastuff 6000 is pretty much equal to the Uniflex in all characteristics, and would be the preferred overcoating for the Uniflex. Application directions would be the same as those for fiberglass surfaces.
Fiberglass Surfaces: Fiberglass shall be dry and clean, and free from any dirt, grease, oil, pollution fallout, or other foreign contaminants which could interfere with proper adhesion. All fiberglass surfaces should then be scuff sanded and wiped down with MEK or vacuumed to remove all dust.
Two coats are generally recommended.
The Rhino Top would work with the same surface prep but would give you a matte non-gloss surface, and its durability would be shorter.
